Hume Park

This is a park on two levels, upper level and lower level. Lower level has a little river running on the northern edge.

The river It originates from Deer Lake. In the winter and thus the rainy season, the river swells, is murkier as there’s lot of flow. In spring, the river is much more beautiful to look at. It attracts ducks and other birds. You can sometimes see people fishing.

River watching is fun. If you walk from the Upper Hume Park to the Lower Hume Park to reach this river, its a good respite, standing still, looking at the river flowing, quietly in almost the middle of the city, between New Westminster and Burnaby.

The Dog Park Its a good sized park. Lots of dog owners. Festive atmosphere most of the times. Its dry mud unlike little pebbles in many city dog parks. The paws do get dirty but there’s tonnes of grass on the field so they get cleaned. Besides the dogs are touching earth, directly, without the dry pebbles.

Picnic Spot There’s a covered area in Lower Hume Park. It holds about 50 people sitting. There’s drinking water and washrooms alongside the covered area. There’s parking for about 20 vehicles in two spots in that area. When you have a picnic there, you have access to the whole of Lower Hume Park and the river. This section of the Hume park is surrounded by little hills covered with Trees. It feels like a little oasis in the city.

Walking Trails On Western hilly side of the Lower Hume Park are very short, little trails. Very handy when you’ve eaten too much, or when kids are bugging you so you take them for an enchanting little walk.
